A How-To video is a video that teaches people how to do something. They are usually created by a company or an individual and then shared on YouTube, Facebook, or other social media platforms. These videos can be used for marketing purposes as well as educational purposes. They are a great way for people to learn how to do a new skill or accomplish a task.

While some how-to videos are just one person talking to the camera and demonstrating their skills, others may have multiple people involved in the production process and filming at different locations using different types of equipment.

Some of the most popular types of how-to videos are about cooking, fitness, beauty and travel. The process of creating these videos can vary depending on what kind of content is being created. For example, tutorials may be more time-consuming than simple how-to demonstrations like cooking recipes or hairstyling tutorials.

The key to making your videos more engaging is by having a clear idea of what you want to convey and how you want the viewer to feel. This will make it easier for them to watch your video and keep them coming back for more. Here are some tips on how you can create a video that is both entertaining and effective:

1. Keep it short

2. Include testimonials

3. Keep the content relevant to your audience

While these are good principles to live by when recording how-to videos, we felt it would be better to also provide examples where you can see these best practices in action. So in this blog, we’ll highlight 5 how-to videos that really work and share why

Example #1 - Top 4 Exercises to Improve Your Golf Swing by a Physical Therapist (link)

What we liked about this video was that despite it being hosted by a subject matter expert, it was easy to consume and the host was very personable. The training also wasn’t specialized, nor did it require custom equipment. The props used in the video are items accessible to anyone.

Example #2 - How To Make Scrambled Eggs in the Microwave (link)

We selected this video because it was a great example of understanding your audience. Given the title, there is a high probability that the target audience are males between 18-25. With that in mind, the video was short, included on screen instructions, as well as a recording of the steps. Just what a young college student needs to grab breakfast and have enough time to make it class.

Example #3 - How I Built a Website That Generates 4 Million Visitors a Month (link)

Neil Patel’s YouTube channel is literally a repository of best practices. Why? Well because Neil has the industry experience and the track record to prove it. Due to this domain expertise, his videos are highly sought after and extremely beneficial to marketers of all career levels

Example #4 - How To Build Muscle Strength- A Complete Guide (link)

Similar to example #2, this video included written instructions to reinforce the imagery viewers were seeing on the video. We especially loved the mix between animated and stock footage to keep it engaging for viewers.

Example #5 - 5 Tips For Falling Asleep Quicker, According To A Sleep Expert (link)

This video also included an engaging mix between live action and animated content – which is a win-win for all audiences. It’s also hosted by a subject matter expert that is able to communicate the key points in a reasonable amount of time.
