3 Knowledge Management Challenges You Can Solve with Video

There are many challenges that organizations face when it comes to knowledge management. If you’re not familiar with the term, knowledge management is a fancy way to describe the process of identifying, capturing, storing, and sharing knowledge. Essentially, it’s a way to make sure that the knowledge gained by one person or team can be used by others.

Of the myriad of obstacles presented by knowledge management, there are three in particular than can be addressed with video:

- Knowledge silos: Knowledge silos, or lack of knowledge sharing, occur when different parts of an organization have their own set ways for doing things that don't involve other parts or departments. This leads to a lack of collaboration and can cause problems when it comes to sharing information across the organization.

- Time constraints: Writing is time consuming, reading is time consuming, and if you have to do both simultaneously then it can be incredibly difficult to find the necessary time. This leaves many people feeling frustrated and overwhelmed by the task at hand.

- Employee Engagement: The problem is that employees are often not engaged, and when they are disengaged, their productivity decreases.

In this blog, we’ll spend time explaining these challenges in greater detail, as well as provide guidance on how to overcome them with video.

Challenge #1 - Knowledge silos

Knowledge silos are a problem in many organizations. They happen when people in an organization don't share knowledge with each other. This can lead to a lack of knowledge transfer and the company's overall success suffers.

Knowledge silos can be created by many different factors, including:

- Different departments or teams within an organization

- Different levels of hierarchy within an organization

- Different levels of expertise within an organization

- Different levels of access to information within an organization

The best way to avoid knowledge silos is by encouraging people to share information and collaborate with each other. But you need to make it easy for them. That’s were video comes in. Not everyone is a seasoned writer, but pretty much anyone, anywhere can press the record button and record themselves speaking.

Challenge #2 - Time constraints

The world is a fast-paced place, and there is never enough time in the day. We are constantly being pulled in different directions with little to no control over our schedules. The result of this is that we are always short on time, and it has become a major issue for many people.

The average person spends about 4 hours on reading and writing every day. This is because reading and writing are two time-consuming tasks. It’s not just the time it takes to read or write, but also the energy it takes to do so. They require a lot of focus, which is why we feel tired after reading or writing for a long period of time. The more focused we are on reading or writing, the more tired we get.

That’s why video is a powerful medium for content. It is easier to understand and more engaging than text. Plus both reading and writing are time consuming and rather boring.

Challenge #3 - Employee engagement

Engaging content is important for employee engagement. Both creating it and consuming it. When employees are engaged, they are more likely to stay with the company and be productive.

Video can be a powerful tool to engage employees. It is a more personal way to communicate with employees and it is also one of the most popular methods of communication in the world. Employees are generally more engaged when they are given the opportunity to see themselves on video. It is a chance for them to see themselves in a different light and feel more confident about their work. It makes them feel like they are a part of something and are contributing to something.
